Internet Officially Gone

Yup. It's gone at home now. We'll probably look into picking up a phone line and DSL. That will kill two birds with one stone: a.) stick it to the man (Comcast Cable), and b.) get us internet access at home (duh). On an entirely unrelated note, I'm looking forward to this movie.

Garden Reloaded

13 bags of soil, one gerber daisy, one perrenial plant of some variety, 24 impatiens and four hosta later and we have the unveiling of "Asymmetry Gardens at the Buehrle Estate." The photo of the gerber and two plants is at the front of the house. The large garden is at the back (main entry) door.

My First Garden

It's a long boring story, so let me not bore you with the ... well, let me bore you. You see we had this brick patio-ish area outside of our back door (which functions as our front door. We didn't use it for anything and it looked ugly. So, I pulled up all the bricks, put down 19 bags of soil, planted five plants and planted a bunch of impatiens (sp?). It looks a bit sparse,and needs more soil, but Naomi said "it looks better than the bricks," so I'm satisfied. There's more to the story, but I'll stop there.

Apple or Coffee?

I heard a report on the radio this morning that an apple gives you more energy in the morning than caffeine. I figured I'd get the best of both worlds and have an apple with my coffee. I feel fantastic.

Wow, It's a Dresser!

At the request of the sfb, I am posting pictures of the dresser from two angles (in one picture you can barely see the dresser) and am posting a video that features the dresser with cameo appearances from Ben and Sam.

Two Doors

We had two doors installed. It's a long and boring story, but I love to tell it. Here it goes. The sliding glass door is white, as can be seen from inside. It was glaringly white from the outside, so I constructed a frame made of cedar trim to cover up the frame from most angles. That's right - I did. I primed, painted, and cut the trim to size. I even got to use my saw again. I'm a toolman. That's right. And so is Sam. While I was nailing up the trim, he was using a basketball pump as his tool to do ... I'm not quite sure. He told Naomi that using tools is dangerous. She needs to be careful. Tools are only for toolmen "like me and daddy." The front door isn't painted yet. All that's left is the new garage door and opener are going to be installed (by professionals more professional than even me and Sam if you can believe that). Then Sam and I will put up the two new storm doors from Menards.

Ten Pounds

While I was sick, I lost ten pounds. Here's how it was distributed: four pounds of fat off my waist, five pounds of muscle all over, and one pound of hair that they shaved off my arm to put in the IV while I was in the hospital.

On a related note, my doctor said during a follow up check-up yesterday that I was the sickest adult he's seen in a long time. I'm so proud. I was there so that he could check to see if my spleen was still swollen. It is, as expected. I won't be playing rugby or any other of my favorite contact sports any time soon.

On a related note, the picture above is superhero "The Spleen" from my favorite comedy "Mystery Men." He's pretty gross. It was appropriate that Paul "Pee-Wee Herman" Reubens played the character.

THE Anthology

On Ben's birthday, I received a small package in the mail from Director/Actor/Writer/Editor, Kevin Hanna of Rockymentary fame. In this package, I found a disk that simply said "Rockymentary" on it. When I inserted this disk into my DVD player, I discovered that Kevin had sent me the Rockymentary Anthology. It included:

1.) The original Rockymentary
2.) The five year anniversary director's commentary edition
3.) The ten year Rockymentary reunion footage

Thank, Dir. Kevin S. Hanna. Thanks a bunch.

The Rockymentary is nowhere to be found online, but you can view the reunion footage here. It's a better use of your time than watching Different Strokes re-runs. If that doesn't sell you on it, I don't know what will.

Ikea Has Our Money

Here are a few new items for the boys' room. Pictures of animals and wire "clothes-hanger-ish" things on which to hang pictures and stuff.

Fabulous Quarter Round

And trim. The promised photos don't do it justice. The quarter round is simply fabulous. A couple more big projects are in the works: new counter top, sink and faucet -- and in the spring, Betty Jean (Naomi's mom) and I are painting our fridge white as well as the windows. She just doesn't know it yet;o) ...
