Obituary of Grandpa Stanley R. Rolnick

Stanley R. Rolnick

Stanley R. Rolnick, 82, of La Crosse died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

He was born in Frederick, Md., on Nov. 2, 1924, to Malachi and Rose (Abel) Rolnick. He married Virginia Goodwin on June 19, 1950, and she preceded him in death Sept. 22, 1997. Stanley received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland. He received his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was awarded a doctorate degree from UW-Madison in 1951. He was a history research assistant at UW-Madison and was a recipient of the President Adams Fellow-ship. He taught at Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh from 1949-50, and he and his wife, Virginia, taught military personnel stationed in Europe through the University of Maryland at the College of Special and Continuation Studies from 1950-52. He taught at Howard University in Washington, D.C., from 1952-53; Southern State College, Magnolia, Ark., from 1953-57 and in 1957, he came to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he taught until his retirement in 1988. After retirement, he and his beloved wife spent their time traveling, reading and enjoying time with each other.

Stanley is survived by the second love of his life and special friend, Virginia Klevan; a brother, Jerome of Lyndhurst, Ohio; daughter, Laura (Doug) Buehrle of Durham, N.C.; son David (Linda) of Williams Bay, Wis.; four grandchildren, Rebekah of Durham, Matthew (Naomi) of Gurnee, Ill., Michael of Chicago and Andrew of Williams Bay, Wis.; and two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Benjamin, both of Gurnee.

Services will be held at noon today at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson St., La Crosse. Rabbi Simcha Prombaum will officiate, and burial will be in Ansche Chesed Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of services.

Obituary of Wanda M. Buehrle

Wanda M. Buehrle

Wanda M. Buehrle, 83, of La Crosse, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 4, 2007.

She was born on Aug. 23, 1923, to Conrad and Hazel Olson. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn; and a daughter, Carol. Wanda is survived by sons, Chip, David, Doug and John; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Wanda’s greatest love and dedication was her family. She had great love for her friends from associations, including Community Theatre and doll and miniature restoration.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the American Diabetes Association.

In honor of Wanda’s life, family and friends will gather on Sunday, March 11, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Baus Haus, 1920 Ward Ave., La Crosse.

Dickinson Family Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family.
