World's Best Coffee

Last night we went down to Chicago for dinner (Foodlife), Fireworks, and Parade. All the Christmas lights were lit for the first time downtown as well. We had a great time with friends from church and Missy from Carolina (who lives downtown). At dinner I drank some Intelligentsia brand coffee and then after the parade and fireworks we went to Intelligentsia for mochas. I used to be a barista at Starbucks. That leads me to this post. The best five coffee brands in the world. Feel free to offer your own favorites.

5. Newport ("roast their own" - not a chain - located in Bannockburn, Illinois)
4. Starbucks ("bold" brands - Espresso, Verona, Guatemala, etc.)
3. Dunn Bros. Coffee ("roast their own" - chain)
2. Intelligentsia (chain)
1. Trader Joe's (brew at home - especially like Peaberry)

An aside: I've never had Peet's. I don't particularly like McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts, Gloria Jeans, or Caribou - but can drink them.

I'm just a little disappointed that the Rrrroll up The Brim to Win... at the famous Canadian Coffee hot spot of Tim Horton's did not make the list....

Got to have the Peet's, your list is incomplete without it. That being said, I had the Peaberry last month for first time and was very pleasantly surprised

Sorry ... Tim Horton's will get a mention on the cold beverage list. Peet's will make the list (hopefully) once I've had it ... once you give me some ... which brian?

Sorry Brian ... we have a friend from church named Brian whose favorite coffee is Peet's. I didn't think he had our blog address, so I was confused ... because I knew you did, but didn't know you had Trader Joe's or had ever had Peet's. Unless you had Starbucks Peaberry which is great, too.

No, TJ Peaberry. We hit up TJ every time we go to DC/Northern VA...but now TJ just moved into Raleigh, so we can get our TJ fix every time we visit the Triangle too! Our bill goes up every time we go because we have a rule about trying something new there each time. :)
Now, Peet's...World Market used to carry Peet's but not as consistently now. Bennetts sent us some when they lived in SF area (that's where they mostly are...west coast)...got introduced by a guy in med school whose family liked Peet's so much they mail ordered it from the web, I think.
